On September 6, 2024, Cadet College Petaro hosted a solemn and respectful celebration of Defense Day. The event commenced with a poignant Defense Day Wreath Laying Ceremony, where cadets and staff gathered to lay wreaths in honor of the nation’s heroes.
This ceremony set a reverent tone for the day’s events, as participants paid tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
Following the wreath laying, the celebration continued with a “Sallami,” where the cadets and staff paid their respects with a formal salute.
The event then featured a heartfelt tribute to our martyred Ex- Cadet, Shaheed Lt. Cdr. Syed Jawad Ali Shah PN (Kit # 4058), who sacrificed his life in the Pakistan Navy Sea King helicopter crash of 2023. To honor his sacrifice, we were honored to welcome his mother and his proud brother, Major Maaz Ali Shah (Kit # 7001 – J), to the event.
Their presence was a poignant reminder of the personal cost of such bravery and sacrifice. A moment of silence and a recitation of prayers were held to reflect on the impact of Lt. Cdr. Syed Jawad Ali Shah’s bravery and selflessness on both the college and the nation.
The ceremony then featured speeches and a ceremonial program that underscored the significance of Defense Day. Lt. Colonel (R) Syed Iftikhar Ahmed TI (M), Principal of Army Public School & College Sindh Regiment Center, Hyderabad, was the chief guest and delivered an inspiring address. His words reinforced the values of courage, dedication, and patriotism that are embodied by our armed forces and honored through this day of remembrance.
The event concluded with a reception, allowing cadets and guests to reflect on the day’s proceedings and discuss the importance of defending the nation with pride and honor. The celebration served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives in service to the country and reaffirmed the commitment of Cadet College Petaro to uphold these values.
